Sailor Moon Crystal: The Girls are Back!

CONTAINS SPOILERS

It’s official, after Act 1: Usagi aired on Saturday, Sailor Moon is back! Now, after 22 years, the new series Sailor Moon Crystal aired worldwide this past Saturday. So…what were my thoughts on episode one?

Although there has been a huge amount of criticism of the 90s version (mainly the Dic version); nonetheless, I will not compare it because it would be unfair. The original version (view on Hulu.com) it has changes, yet it didn’t diminish the greatness of Naoko Takeuchi writing.

What are my thoughts on the first episode?

Episode one is EXACTLY like the manga! It is extremely satisfying because the viewer is literally seeing the book coming to life. I will point out that the manga is much darker than the original series. So, for the viewers like me that viewed the 90s one…brace your self lads! Sailor Moon Crystal will offer a deeper explanation of Queen Beryl‘s evilness or how Usagi and Mamoru Chiba meet in the past. Of course, this is episode one; however, several sources have revealed that Sailor Moon Crystal will be faithful to the manga. My hypothesis is that based on episode one this may be true.
