FC Barcelona Continues to Rule Like Kings

Happy Three Kings Day!

After the well-deserved Christmas break, La Liga is back on session and it was steamy. The Catalan team welcomes back Villanova after his surgery this past December. The first game for FC Barcelona of 2013 is the Catalan Derby against the RCD Espanyol.

Aguirre’s boys were defeated before the end of the first half. Villanova’s team dominated the game with little effort. The goals were almost consecutive: 9’ Xavi, 14’, and 26’ Pedro. Yet, I’m not in the position to spark controversy, but I highly question the referee’s decision to card the goalkeeper and the penalty. Leo Messi scores his first goal of the year successfully. Personally, I would have just carded the goalkeeper, not awarded a penalty. Still, it was pleasure to watch Messi score his first goal of the year.

The second half, their energy levels lost its shine. The Catalan team played lacking the same adrenaline of the first half. Pedro attempted to score another goal of the night, but failed to achieve the fifth one. Minute 65, Fabregas leaves the field and “El Guaje” Villa enters the field. A successful start for the Tito’s team in the new year. The final score was 4-0 another win for FC Barcelona.
