This weekend, many fans like myself have waited long enough for Spain’s “La Liga” to return. The expectation of the season is Tito Villanova as Barcelona’s Head Coach. Already the pre-season games were excellent, but “La Liga” is a different story. Camp Nou welcomed the new season with Real Sociedad as their guest.
The game started strong with Carles Puyol return after his recovery from his knee injury. Puyol was the first player to score like in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Three minutes later, Real Sociedad’s player, Castro tied the game. Shortly after Castro’s goal, Messi unties the game. The first half ended with noticeable absences from Pique, Iniesta, and Villa. By the time the second half started, Barcelona dominated the game with 3 to 1. Later, Villa, Iniesta, and Pique joined the game to make things more interesting for the Barcelona’s fans.
Messi attempted to score more goals and failed to do so; however, Pedro scores the fourth goal in the 40th minute. Towards the end of the game, Villa made a remarkable return after six months of a slow recovery. Minute 82, David Villa honored Barcelona’s last goal of the night by taking off the team’s shirt and showing a shirt with his family’s picture.
It is certain that Villanova started strong in this season and the Barcelona’s stars did not disappoint their fans. Although Messi tried to score a hat-trick, the Argentinian star shined in this game with two goals. Yet, Puyol and Villa truly surprised the audience with their goals considering they were severely injured for many months. The game ended 5 – 1 giving Barcelona’s first victory.
