USA Women – London 2012

The New Golden Girls

The USA soccer team proves they are stronger than ever. The USA female soccer team could give plenty of pointers to the male USA team to improve their game in the field. The American team once again is present in a golden olympic final against Japan. The Japanese rival wants to earn another title like they did back in the World Cup 2011 in Germany.

The first 60 minutes the USA team settled with a 2-0. With a team like Japan, the USA team should have tried to score more than two goals. By minute 65, Japan scores by weakening the USA team confidence.  The final two minutes could determine and either repeat history or USA team could obtain redemption for their loss in the last World Cup 2011. The seconds of the game were tense even my stomach ached a bit. Then, minute 2:05 seconds, the female USA team earns gold, while Japan the 2011 FIFA Champion earns a worthy and valuable silver medal.

USA vs. USA?

The Beach volleyball finale had a surprising ending, USA vs. USA! It is great for the USA fans because both teams will earn gold and silver no matter what they do. Yet, this time around, for the USA fans will root for  the participants playing in the final match.  Misty May-Treanor/ Kerri Walsh or April Ross/ Jennifer Kessy, who wins this match? The now, three-time golden medalists, Treanor and Walsh played for the last time internationally. Treanor mentioned during her recent interview on NBC, she’s not planning to come to Rio 2016. As for Walsh, she’s excited to return to Rio, but she has to find a partner first.

The unbeatable team earns gold, while April Ross and  Jennifer Kessy earns the silver medal. The last match was an all-American ending.

Fierce Five

The “Fab Five” as they became known as they entered the Olympics made American history. After 16 years, the USA team earned gold as the All-Around Champions. Each girl is fierce and brilliant. They ended their London run with more medals: a golden medal on the floor, a silver on the vault, and a bronze on the balance beam. A fantastic ending for the gymnastics team!

Boxing Loss and Wins

Marlen Esparza enchanted the public with her impressive skills, but London ended on a sour note for her. Her final match against Cancan Ren from China was clear Marlen should have won. Ren hit punches like a amateur and missed many times, yet the judges scored Esparzas’ performance poorly giving her the bronze medal. A bronze medal like the silver and gold is praised, yet Marlen’s match was not fairly scored. I hope to see you in Rio!

In a different group, the USA middleweight boxer, Claressa Shields earned the first place by beating the Russian veteran, Nadezda Torlopova. It was redemption for Shields because in the World Championship, Shields lost early into the tournament.
