The Power of Words: “8”: A Play about the Fight for Marriage Equality

On the night of March 3, 2012, the hollywood A-List stars presented on a live pre-show of the play “8”. The play is based on ” The United States District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker, who found Prop 8 unconstitutional after presiding over the 12-day public trial” (CNN). According to AFER twitter’s account, they clarified the play “8” lines were not made up.

“all of this is from actual court transcripts from the trial. None of these lines are embellished or made up”


The play is based on the trial of Proposition 8. AFER website’s explains in detail about “8”.

“Uncover the truth about marriage for gay and lesbian Americans. George Clooney, Martin Sheen and Jane Lynch join an all-star cast for a one-night-only benefit reading of “8,” the new play by Academy-award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) that chronicles the landmark federal trial of California’s Prop. 8 using the actual court transcripts and first-hand interviews.”


Gays and Lesbians are part of society, their rights should not be questioned or banned. This is a fight for equality is a fight that must end in victory; however, to make gays and lesbians rights established AFER needs our support. Sign the pledge, donate, and share it.
