FIFA International Week: Messi, Dempsey, and Soldado

On leap day, the international friendly started with many games; however, three players made these games memorable: Messi, Dempsey and Soldado. The three players made any soccer fan wish it was leap day again.

MESSI

Argentina played against Switzerland. The 24 year-old captain, Leo Messi scored a hat-trick during the international friendly. This is the first time for Leo scoring a hat-trick for the national team. The last time Argentina lost during a FIFA Friendly game was on November 2011. The team lost against Venezuela and then tied with Bolivia. Switzerland’s coach admitted, ”It’s always a huge pleasure to see Messi. Except if you’re the coach of the opposing team” (foxsports). I watch the FC Barcelona games and seeing Messi play is magic.

DEMPSEY

The USA team is fairly a young team in the world of soccer including the birth of the MLS league. The team has a new coach and already the USA fans are enjoying the results.

Clint Depmsey delivered a historic game for his home team. It was the first time the USA team won against Italy with Depmsey goal in minute 55 of the second half. It is a significant victory because the American team have played 10 times against Italy. Hence, this is a memorable moment for the American team and for Fulham’s midfielder player.

SOLDADO

Valencia’s striker was the surprise of the night. After a five years hiatus, the twenty-eight year-old player scored a hat-trick and missed a penalty. In the second half of the game, Soldado substituted another excellent team player, Fernando Llorente (Athletic Club Bilbao striker). Yet, Soldado did not shined alone because FC Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta scored the first goal of the night. A second goal was followed by Manchester City’s player, David Silva.
