Already the first clasico of the year in the King’s Cup, Madrid eliminates Barcelona during the semi-finals. Therefore, Madrid starts this second classico for la liga with plenty of eustress (positive stress) and adrenaline. Meanwhile, the Catalan team lost the chance for redemption this time around.
Saturday morning (USA time), five minutes into the game Benzema scores the first goal for Real Madrid. Twelve minutes later, Messi ties the game. Barcelona dominates the first half, but lacks possession and stamina. The second half, Madrid returns aggressive, yet both teams played relatively on the same level. The last 15 minutes of the game, Real Madrid starts to weaken the Catalan turf. Then an ignored penalty angers the Barcelona team and fans (this really boiled me as well) because the referee should have granted the penalty; however, nothing occurred until Sergio Ramos ended this classic with the second and final goal.
Even with this loss, the Catalan team still leads while Real Madrid struggles to reach second place because of A. Madrid. By the way, this is not the “end of a cycle” or a “crisis”. In any sport, losing and wining is part of the package, so please let’s not over dramatize it.
